Miyajima Torii

Back on track, you're probably familiar with Japanese gates called Torii, this one in particular is Miyajima's Torii, in Hiroshima, one of Japan's biggest tourist attractions (if you're in Japan you definitely have to go there!). This one in particular is inside of the water, and appears to be floating on high tide.
Looking at the gate from the ferry. At first it didn't seem that big, but...
Taking a closer look, this torii is quite big (compare it to the size of a human being ^^) and (the original one) was built on the 12th Century. I'm not sure if it was used to guide boats, but boats did sail through the gate. At night, the tide rises and the torii looks beautiful -- unfortunately, I was too busy drinking, fortunately my friends did take lots of pictures.
Anyway, if you're ever near Miyajima, the Japanese-style hotels (ryokan) are a must, maybe a bit on the expensive side but hey, you're in Japan!

I live near here. If you look back towards the Hiroshima side while looking at this gate you will notice a HUGE white temple on the mountain?? It belongs to a cult and they must be rich because it is MASSIVE!!
By the way...
You get good luck if you can toss a stone on the horizontal beams. You can see all the stones in the pic.

I went here and was happy that the tide wasn't in so I could see the Tori up close and personal. From the boat it looks small but yes, once you get closer you see it's real size. Such an amazing site!
Oh and I would like to add that the shika(deer) there are mean!! NOT nice like the ones over at Nara park ^^ I had just a spec of food and they all ran after me ... then when I didn't have any food they tried to eat the fan I was holding ^_^' anyway yeah loved miyajima and great pictures!!
