Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 03

After a long sleepless night of taking photos of first everything I saw, and then the turtle(s), I thought, screw it! Coffee FTW! I can sleep when I'm dead! And while I'm alive and awake may as well make the most of my time. So instead of going to sleep, I just stuck like a leech to the resort employees and followed them wherever they went.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 01

But first, stopping by some local store to pick up something tasty.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 02

And back on the street continuing to follow them.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 04

First about 20 or so minutes away from the resort by van, passing though some small town on feet.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 05

Hmm, I wonder where they're taking me.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 06

The quality of the roads is surprisingly good in this town.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 07

Looking down from the bridge, I see some half-destroyed building. Wonder what happened.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 08

Big fluffy clouds everywhere,

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 09

and jungle as far as the eye can see.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 10

Stopping by some other small store. Oh and a reminder to the photographers, if you're using a wide-angle lens, people will appear screwed up if they happen to be on the side of the photo.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 12

Inside the store, what do I find? Freakin' Nissin Cup Noodles! Oh man, I love these things so much!

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 11

The good roads come and go. Actually they go more often then they come.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 13

He claimed that this is his girlfriend and he's been seeing her since 15 or so. Interesting...

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 14

Cool looking mail box.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 15

Aha! So this is where they were taking me! To a beach!

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 16

What's so special about this beach? Well, for one its not covered in swarms of tourists.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 17

Hmm?

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 18

Hmm!

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 19

A bottle or two later.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 20

Quite a lot of fishing boats everywhere.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 21

Some local reading a book it looks like.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 22

Oh and if anyone is wondering who he is, he's the night chef at that bar where I spent every single night.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 23

Unlike the palms at the resort, these ones aren't covered in coconuts.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 24

A huge storm approaching.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 25

And within maybe 2 minutes, it starts pouring. I really don't mind rain, in fact I actually quite love it. But when there's an expensive camera hanging around your neck... well, its kinda hard to be thrilled about first sand flying everywhere and then buckets of water falling on you.

Mexico 2009 Part 11 - With the locals 26

But good thing about all these storms, they all end in 15-20 minutes. On that note, this post ends as by this point I was so dead and half-asleep that I was barely moving and was obviously in no condition to be taking any more photos.

Superb. I just love the first picture colors. Blue and Green tees on the left fit perfectly. Like your comments also. Thanks a lot for sharing those.

    yonasu

@Tomakun, I agree, the first one really caught my eyes. Well done there Michael!^^

    Michael Flux

    @yonasu, heh, thanks Jonas :)

    Michael Flux

@Tomakun, Thanks sir, and yes, was actually quite surprised myself by how nicely most of these photos turned out considering that I was taking all of them while walking ^_^

  2. Moign Khawaja

Great pics with good captions. Free flowing to say the least. My fav pic is your friend sat next to his 'girlfriend'. Marvellous!

    Michael Flux

@Moign Khawaja, Hah, yeah, I got quite a kick out of it when he told me that :p Awesome guy, plus his food is damn tasty! ^_^

  3. Tibul

The advantage to getting to know the locals, you can find all the cool spots that you otherwise may never see.

    Michael Flux

@Tibul, Yeah, I honestly think I had a way better time then all the other tourists who just spent all their time eating, drinking and laying on the beach. At least I met some interesting people!

  4. Heferkimbo

As a historic note.... around the mayan ruins 1000 years ago you wouldn't see any jungle for kilometers, in fact mayans were big tree choppers, as they needed to burn 5 m3 to get 1 kilo of cement... and they needed a lot to build their stone cities!... i guess time does heal everything, even human destruction!! : ) ....

Beautiful images, the last 3 images before the final one are amazing....!!! the first one shows a really sunny day, then the second shows the transition to the final one, with rain, wind and dark clouds!!..

    Michael Flux

@Heferkimbo, Speaking of them, kinda sad that I didn't get to see any of them - next time I'll go will really have to get out some more and do a bit more exploring ^_^

  5. Santa

You are by far, the most sleep deprived person I know. XD

    Michael Flux

@Santa, Meh, I can sleep when I'm dead - of course as long as my lack of sleep doesn't get me closer to that :P

  6. chun

    wow the wind must be so strong! O_O I wonder how in the world you took those pix ^O^;;;; and funny chef in the sand pix ^^;

    Michael Flux

@chun, Well, lets see, first I took the photo, then I spent half an hour cleaning the sand out of the camera :( - really, beach sand is the worst - not only is it so tiny that it gets everywhere, but its also contains salt so if you're not careful your equipment can get very rusty very quickly. And yes, now you'll know why there's sand in your sandwiches :p

    Heferkimbo

@Michael Flux, Yeah beach sand is bad for electronic devices.. but, on top of that, sand on the caribbean is like powder, very small, compared to the sand no pacific, here it is very big and rough! I remember as a kid taking half a kilo of sand from my swimsuit!, sand does get everywhere, and i mean everywhere ; )

    Michael Flux

@Heferkimbo, Hahaha, that it does, don't remind me :p

Very useful article. Myself & my neighbor were preparing to do some research about that. We got a good book on that matter from our local library and most books were not as descriptive as your information. I am very glad to see such information which I was searching for a long time.
